Once you’ve selected the type and size of your chaton, a standard conical setting will appear with the recommended parameters.
The available cavity shapes are conical and cylindrical with a flat bottom, central hole and/or cylindrical border.

2) Conical setting with a central hole:
3) Conical setting with a cylindrical border and flat bottom:
4) Conical setting with a cylindrical border and central hole:
It is important to note that the drill bit used to create the setting cavity utilizes a cross-blade that creates a tiny flat surface at the bottom of the cavity, usually about one-tenth of the diameter of the drill bit.
An overview tab will also display the thickness of the glue at the tip of the chaton.
When gluing the chaton in the setting cavity, be sure to correctly and evenly position the chaton. The table and girdle should be parallel to the setting cavity.
Correctly placed chaton:
Incorrectly placed chatons:
The following images depict incorrectly positioned chatons
a) The tip of chaton touches the bottom of the cavity, which could cause damage to the tip and affect the straightness of the chaton.
b) The angle of the cavity is wider than the angle of the chaton. Using a setting without a central hole would cause the chaton to stand crookedly within the cavity and it would not be possible to glue the stone upright.
c) If the diameter of the chaton is bigger than the diameter of a cavity with a cylindrical border, the girdle of the chaton will not be hidden in the cylindrical border of the cavity.
It is also possible that part of the chaton would be outside of the cavity.
Choosing the Setting Cavity
While choosing the right cavity shape, bear in mind the final design of the product.
Recommended parameters can be adjusted to suit the needs of the design. However it is necessary to keep in mind the above mentioned aspects.
